Hall CPA Acquires Dental Accounting Firm Tooth & Coin

Deal marks the real estate–focused firm’s first expansion into a new industry niche as it enters its second decade.

RALEIGH, N.C., September 8, 2026 — Hall CPA, a national tax and accounting firm known for its work with real estate investors, has acquired Tooth & Coin, an accounting, tax, and advisory firm that works exclusively with dental practices. The deal is Hall CPA’s first acquisition and marks the beginning of a broader push into new industry niches as the firm celebrates its 10th anniversary.

Brandon Hall founded the firm in 2016 to build something the profession lacked at the time: a fully remote accounting firm organized around a single industry rather than a generalist approach. Since then, Hall CPA has grown to serve nearly 2,000 clients nationwide with tax preparation, tax planning, accounting, tax resolution, and cost segregation services. The firm has appeared on the Inc. 5000 for five consecutive years and was named a Top 400 and Fastest-Growing Firm by INSIDE Public Accounting in 2025 and 2026.

“We built Hall CPA on the idea that accountants do their best work when they go deep in one industry instead of a little bit of everything,” said Brandon Hall, founder and CEO of Hall CPA. “Tooth & Coin proved that same thesis in dental, independently, and at the same time we were proving it in real estate. Bringing the two firms together lets us build on what each of us has already proven, and provides the foundation for where we take this next.”

Tooth & Coin was founded by Jonathan VanHorn in 2013 as DentistMetrics and built specifically for dentists and dental practice owners. What began as a one-person consulting business now serves more than 400 practices nationwide, providing accounting, tax, profit advisory, and other services designed around how dental practices actually operate.

Tooth & Coin will continue to operate under its own brand as a Hall CPA company, and its clients will continue to work with the same team. Jonathan VanHorn continues to serve as an advisor to the company. The combined firms employ more than 100 people across the United States.

“Dentists deserve advisors who understand a practice, not generalists learning the business on the job,” said VanHorn. “Hall CPA has spent a decade proving that model works. Joining them gives our clients access to a broader set of expertise and provides our team members with excellent future opportunities for growth.”

For Hall CPA, the acquisition brings an established team, client base, and body of practice knowledge in a market the firm has not previously served. It is intended to be the first of several moves. Future growth is expected to come through additional acquisitions, new specialized teams built inside the firm, or a combination of both.

“The next ten years look like this: more industries, same approach,” said Hall. “We are not trying to be everything to everyone. We are trying to be the obvious choice in every market we enter.”

Ten years after beginning to serve real estate investors, Hall CPA enters its second decade betting that the same formula — deep industry focus, remote-first delivery — can work in more than one market.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
