Municipal Occupational Tax
Various cities and counties within Alabama have occupational taxes that are withheld by the employer ranging from 0.5% to 2.0%. This tax is deductible on the federal return as a miscellaneous itemized deduction subject to the 2% limit and not as state and local income taxes.
